About Cheri

Cheri has been helping families meet their educational goals for their children for over ten years.  For the past three years she has been speaking to local groups and at conferences about the options earning Credits by Exam provides families.  Prior to giving Workshops, Cheri was an Independent Administrator of the Peabody Academic Achievement Test, providing testing and consulting services to homeschool families.

As a homeschool parent, she has always taken an active role in the area of education.  When her children moved into the middle school years, she began researching options for college that would not strain their family finances.  She firmly believes that college debt severely limits the opportunities and closes doors that students would otherwise explore.

Credit By Exam with CLEP and DSST exams has opened up a path for earning credit that she believes every family should know about.  Successfully navigating her children through the process to study and take these exams, she is dedicated to helping other families achieve this same success.  She has spoken at the MHA State Conference, several local homeschool coops and Workshops in both Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Her 11th grade son currently has over 90 credits, is attending PSEO this year and plans on graduating from a Regionally Accredited College shortly after his senior year of high school for a cost of under $6,000.  He is double majoring in History and Political Science.  Her 10th grade daughter has earned two years of credits working toward a BS in Business and wants to backpack through Europe or join the Peace Corps and use the time she is saving to take a glass-bottomed cruise with a friend!   Most recently, her 8th grade "outdoorsy" son took the leap and earned his first three college credits -- proving that given the right motivation (Chinese-buffet lunch), anything can happen!

UPDATE: Son is now in 12th grade and will graduate from Thomas Edison State University in May with a BA in History.  Daughter, now 11th, decided to double major: Psychology and Business and will graduate with her 4-year one year after high school.  Youngest son (9th grade) has earned 9 credits and has caught the bug!

Cheri and her public-school-teacher-husband Tim live in Ramsey, MN.  She received her degrees in Psychology and Local and Urban Affairs from St. Cloud State University.  After choosing to home educate, she completed coursework in Gifted and Talented Learning and takes an interest applying different methods of teaching to different learning styles of students.  Her personal goal is to help those within her circle-of-influence to live up to their calling and realize the dreams God gives each of them.  Besides teaching her own children for 12 years, she has taught through local homeschool coops for seven years and was an on-call teacher at a school in Indonesia while serving a one-year missions trip with her family.
